ROSE BLACK BIG TIME FIGURE…FOR REAL
Born: “In a little rural town called Tottenham, NSW – Australia.”
Residence: “Narromine and about to move to Dubbo.”
Federations: “I predominantly have competed at INBA shows. The INBA organization is so friendly and I have felt really welcomed. This year I competed in an IFBB show and I really enjoyed the experience. I hope to do more shows with both the IFBB and INBA this year.”
Divisions and status (Pro/Amateur) within each?: “I compete in both Figure International and Figure in the INBA competitions, and Figure for IFBB. I am an Amateur in both leagues. It is my ultimate goal and dream to become a Pro in both leagues and I am working very hard towards this goal.”
How low do your calories get when prepping?
I have never been below about 1,800 calories. My calories remain fairly high throughout my prep and the calories I consume come from whole food sources. This keeps my health on track and leaves me feeling satisfied. I really haven’t been “hungry” at all since prepping with Ken.
“I like my HIIT session to be very short, painful, and intense!”
What cardio do you do?
Around three sessions of HIIT per week. These HIIT sessions are limited to around 20-30 minutes and may be things like Jacob’s ladder, interval training (with plyo moves or sprinting), and interval training on the bike. I like my HIIT session to be very short, painful, and intense!
Do you measure your body fat?
I have had DEXA scans done. But predominantly we work on measurements now and working on my symmetry. I have never been a person who carries a lot of fat, having been an athlete from a young age.
“They have improved a lot but I would like the cuts in this area to be a little deeper.”
What is your least impressive body part?
My glutes and outer calves! [laughs] They have improved a lot but I would like the cuts in this area to be a little deeper. I have been training legs three times a week over the past few months in an effort to improve these areas and am getting there slowly.
What do you feel is your most impressive part?
“Abs are made in the kitchen. I honestly do not train abs specifically.”
Definitely my abs. So many people comment on them and ask me how I get them so defined. I have to say that the old saying “Abs are made in the kitchen” is definitely true!
What is training like for your abs?
I honestly do not train abs specifically. However, I do a core class once per week and also ensure that I am activating my core during all workouts and even whilst at rest. I do tack on a short 15 minute ab workout after a back session. This will involve moves on the Swiss ball and hanging leg raises.
What are your favourite exercises?
Wide grip chin-ups. Actually, all types of chin-ups! I love them for the amazing results you can achieve with them and that they make you feel strong as a female. I also really like Dead lifts, again because they get amazing results and utilize so many different muscle groups.
What is the Natural Bodybuilding scene like in Australia?
It is exciting! It is friendly, fun, and glamorous! I love this new world I have entered. I have felt welcomed and supported as a new competitor and people have been so helpful. The girls I have competed against are all beautiful, wonderful girls who just look amazing and keep inspiring me to keep improving. I have found a new sport that I love and look forward to a long career in Bodybuilding.
“…boys step away from me in the gym mirrors because my delts are bigger than theirs!”
How much fun is it to have so much muscle on your body?
Loads of fun! I really enjoy being strong yet feminine. I love being able to have a functional body that allows me to live my life to its fullest potential. I love how little girls in the shopping mall approach me and say they would like to have muscles like me. It is great to be a positive role model to those girls and to show them that you do not have to starve yourself and harm your body with unhealthy eating habits to look feminine and attractive. I must admit, I get a little sense of satisfaction when boys step away from me in the gym mirrors because my delts are bigger than theirs! [laughs]
